WELCOME TO PROJECT SUNSHINE: CMU CHAPTER

ABOUT PROJECT SUNSHINE
Project Sunshine is a nonprofit organization that provides free educational, recreational, and social programs to children facing medical challenges and their families as well. Project Sunshine sends volunteers to visit hospitalized children to provide arts and crafts, tutoring, reading, nutritional cooking and special events. With 15,000 volunteers in 175 cities internationally from the United States, Canada, China, Israel, and Kenya, Project Sunshine serves 100,000 children each year. Project Sunshine encourages volunteers to participate as often as they feel comfortable, whether it is several days a week, once a month, or at special service events once per year.

SERVICE TRIPS
At CMU, Project Sunshine primarily serves children through Direct Service trips and Sending Sunshine. In Direct Service trips, we send students to visit hospitals to play with the children. Sometimes, we even participate in special activities such as Poker, Karaoke, and Board Game Night. In order to be qualified for Direct Service, students must attend training sessions and complete background checks. On the other hand, Sending Sunshine is usually done in on-campus GBMs, where our meetings consist of packaging together craft kits and donating them to hospitals.

FUNDRAISING
We have several fundraisers throughout the semester! Our most well-known event is our bi-annual succulent fundraiser. All proceeds go to the National Project Sunshine Organization.

SENDING SUNSHINE
Another one of Project Sunshine's service efforts is in Sending Sunshine, where we prepare care packages and crafts for children in hospitals to play with. We usually put these packages together in our GBMs, and then ship the assembled packages to a local hospital.

HOW TO STAY INVOLVED
Please send an email to projectsunshine@gmail.com if you have any questions or ideas on how to improve Project Sunshine's outreach on campus!
